Rescue Projects 2009
In 2009, OOTW worked two
Rescue Projects assisting with with over 100 animals. Our wonderful volunteers rallied to rescue, uncovering the "worst"
puppymill situation later raided
by the HSUS. OOTW is currently working the Sweet Home Project where over 120 animals were in need. For the
first time, OOTW has been involved in the rescue of not only dogs and cats, but horses, mules, donkeys, rabbits
and goats. We have helped or found help for HUNDREDS of animals! OOTW has assisted many independent
rescuers with numbers from 1-30. YOUR DONATIONS go directly to help those in need and we need your continued
support!

Perry County: 12 dogs & pups, 9 cats & kittens Start
Date: December 2009 Rescue Coordinator: Debbie
|
This project began December 2009 with OOTW helping an underprivileged family spay and neuter their
many cats and dogs. The family surrendered a Basset Hound Mom and her seven pups to OOTW. Daisy Mae, the Basset and all of
her pups have now been adopted with the last 2 going to their new homes in New Jersey later this month (April). In January
2010, things took a turn for the worst. The family's humble home burned to the ground. OOTW stepped in to help with the remaining pets
and took in an additional six cats and kittens. Morrilton
Veterinarian Clinic found homes for 2 of the cats, one cat was returned to the owners and only 2 kittens are left to
be adopted.

County Line Road: 14 dogs & pups Start Date: November 2009 Rescue Coordinator: ChelseaOOTW volunteer, Chelsea B. recently moved to the Alexander area from Michigan and noticed a house near her subdivision
that had a sign outside that read "Free Pups". Immediately concerned, she went to check it out and learned that
there were 3 unaltered female dogs; they were skinny and chained up to dog houses. She learned that the couple could not
afford to have their dogs sterilized. To put an end to this needless insanity of 3 breeding females producing many puppies
every year, Chelsea offered to get their dogs fixed. The couple was very happy to accept. The couple agreed to let Chelsea
have 6 month old pup, Molly. Just before being spayed Chelsea learned one of the females had given birth to a litter
of 8 puppies. Suddenly, Chelsea's mission to have a few dogs fixed and vaccinated had snowballed into a major rescue. Concerned
for their welfare, Chelsea decided to remove the puppies from their current situation. Chelsea took all the pups into her
care as a first time foster Mom for a entire litter of pups. She has placed all but two of the pups along with Molly, in
wonderful adoptive homes.

Whippoorwill Road: 1abandoned dog & 6 pups Start Date: June 2009
Henry and Phyllis live in an area where dogs are often dumped, and had accumulated a total of 15 dogs
and pups, so when an abandoned white Shepherd gave birth to six pups under a vacant house next door OOTW was
contacted. With the help of Julie, a friend in rescue, mom and pups were vetted and all have been adopted. OOTW also helped
Henry and Phyllis get their other dogs vetted.

Horsey Road: S. Pulaski County - 28 dogs & pups Start Date: January 2009
Penni
and her Mom were trying to deal with a situation that started 5 years before with one feral dog that was
likely dumped on their road. That one dog has had litter after litter of pups. On their own the ladies were
able to find homes for most of the puppies all the while trying to get some help. They finally found OOTW and
we were very happy to assist them! OOTW provided fencing, dog houses, dog food, wormer, flea & tick prevention
and heartworm prevention. All the dogs received veterinarian care and were sterilized. With the exception of the
ones the ladies decided to keep all but six have been adopted into loving forever homes across the country.

Redfield: 24 dogs Start Date: February
2007 Rescue Coordinator: OOTW Shawn S. OOTW Volunteer, Shawn has been working the Redfield Project for
almost 2 years. An impoverished couple, who did not alter their female Cocker Spaniel, soon
had too many dogs to care for. Someone contacted OOTW when it was noticed that these dogs were becoming very
ill and losing their hair. OOTW is providing monthly heartworm, flea and tick medication. Premium Pet Products
has been instrumental in donating dog food. Shawn makes regular visits to Redfield to ensure that these dogs are
taken care of until adoptive homes are found. There are several dogs available, but some will remain with this family as
their pets. All of the dogs have been vetted and spayed or neutered. OOTW is still looking for foster homes
as some of these dogs need to be treated for heartworm disease and then they can be placed for adoption.
