July 2010 - Two of these pups were adopted locally. The remaining pups were assessed through Last Chance Arkansas and were transported to Rondout Animal Shelter in Accord, NY, where they will be given a week to adjust, be reassessed and put up for adoption.  It won't take long for them to find wonderful adoptive homes in NY!

A huge THANKS to Cindy for assessing these pups, and to all the wonderful caretakers and
foster Moms, Kelly, Kim, Ruth, Holly, Lori, Lisa and Georgia.

May 03, 2010 - OOTW was alerted to a litter of beautiful 2-3 wk old pups in the woods, right here in Little Rock by Angels Care, a cat group, that was feeding ferals. The pups were born to a Shepherd mix Mom, they were found in a makeshift shelter that had been built for the feral cats in the area.

Fearing for their safety and well-being the rescue of the pups was planned.  We don't know how the mama dog knew we were coming as she obviously had a different idea. When we arrived, we realized that she had moved the pups!  We began searching but we had no idea where to look. The wooded area seemed vast and poison ivy was everywhere. The miracle we needed came within thirty minutes. The pups were found about fifty feet from the original shelter tucked away in a den like area at the base of a tree. One of them was crying after he had climbed out and was hung up in some wire.
Thankfully, no harm was done and all seven pups were collected and taken to their wonderful foster home in Romance, AR.  Ruth has previous experience with young pups and bottle fed some of the pups initially with around-the-clock feedings. She is continuing to care for them until adoptive homes are found.  Thanks, Ruth!

The pups, Beethoven, Clyde, Phoebe, Echo, Gypsy, Kodak and Lia are growing fast and are just as cute as can be. They appear to be mixed with possibly boxer or beagle. Adoption applications are being accepted now and the pups will be able to go to their new homes soon.

Over the next two weeks, efforts were made to catch the mama dog and two other adult dogs in the area but all attempts so far have failed. We will continue to monitor the situation and hopefully catch mom before she has yet another litter of pups.
